The Phonetic Alphabet is used to verify letters of the alphabet with sound.

The 26 code words in the NATO phonetic alphabet are assigned to the 26 letters of the English alphabet in alphabetical order.

Many agencies use the Phonetic Alphabet extensively, including the United States Armed Forces, state licensing bureaus, law enforcement agencies, collection agencies, credit bureaus and lending institutions.  Many of these agencies require the use of the Phonetic Alphabet when making inquiries.

In addition, its use will speed up your work, and avoid costly and embarrassing errors.   Below is a link where you can download a Phonetic Alphabet list, compliments of Counter Intelligence Services.
